Las Vegas was established in 1906 and was incorporated as a city in 1910. At the end of the twentieth century, Las Vegas had become the most populous American city formed within that same century (an honor held by Chicago in the prior century). The city's tolerance for a variety of kinds of mature pleasures gained it the name of Sin City. This perception has made the city a favorite setting for television programs and films.
